Pelindaba Lavender Farm, San Juan Island, Washington

San Juan Island is nicknamed the “banana belt” of Washington State, because it is in a rain shadow, protected by the Olympic Mountains on one side and Vancouver Island on the other. The beautiful valleys in the center of the island are lush, rolling pastures for cattle, sheep and goats. Christopher Teren Friday Harbor

One of the cool things about staying at the Earthbox Inn & Spa in Friday Harbor is that you can do anything there is to do in town by foot.  No need to worry about traffic, parking, or who is going to be the designated driver. For a small town of only about 2,500 people living here year round, Friday Harbor has an incredible bar scene and something for every taste. The people from Orcas and Lopez Island even call our quaint town “Sin City”, with a little wink.

Please enjoy this great article from Guest Blogger, Lisette Wolter-McKinley:

Over Memorial Day weekend, we stayed at the Earthbox Inn on Friday Harbor. Earthbox Inn is centrally located in town and only four blocks from the ferry terminal. It is close enough you could walk onto the ferry and enjoy a car free vacation as you walk or cruise around town on one of their free bikes. Earthbox Inn is an old motel which has been refurbished into a modern, chic, laid back place to rest your head. Even though we stayed over a holiday weekend, we found our room to be quiet and our bed to be among some of the comfiest we have ever slept in.
