Friday Harbor by Ferry

Most people feel their vacation starts as soon as they arrive at the Washington State Ferry landing in Anacortes, Washington. The ferry that will transport you from the Anacortes ferry terminal to Friday Harbor is about a 90-minute drive north from Seattle, Washington, or south from Vancouver, British Columbia. The sailing is a little more than an hour and you will cruise in comfort through some of the most beautiful waters in the world.

Coffee in Friday Harbor

What better way to start your day that than strolling around Friday Harbor with a cup of good coffee.

Check out Earthbox Inn & Spa's seasonal coffee shop by the pool for amazing espresso drinks and light snacks.

Just a minute's walk from Earthbox will take you to the heart of Friday Harbor, and a variety of coffee shops. The Sweet Retreat, espresso stand, is the closest to our motel and offers a full range of coffee, confection and savory treats. For those with children or perhaps just a sweet tooth, don't miss their Mexican hot chocolate.

Arts and Crafts on San Juan Island

One of the many reasons we love San Juan Island is the vibrant arts scene. We are blessed with more working artists per capita here than anywhere else in Washington State. Friday Harbor has seven art galleries and five museums to explore and that's not all.

Family Fun on San Juan Island

On your family's San Juan Island vacation, you'll discover a natural playground to delight the young in years and young at heart. Great Beaches. Kayaking. Whale watching. Zip-lining. Tide-pooling. Hiking. Birding. Fishing. A skate park. Swimming. Cycling. Paddleboarding. Exploring on Mopeds and 3-wheeled Scootcoupes. Younger kids? Rent a bicycle built for two or a double kayak.

Shopping on San Juan Island

Antiques. Boutiques. Whaletiques (okay, whale-related gifts). From local and Native art and unique, island-made souvenirs to clothing with a Northwest flair, new and used books and kids' toys, San Juan Island shopping is a fun pastime right up there with cycling and hiking. And all in walking distance from your Earthbox door.

Casual Dining on San Juan Island

Enjoy breakfast with an ocean view . . . lunch at an outdoor table overlooking the harbor . . . family brunch or dinner in a hidden, beautiful garden, all an easy walk from Earthbox, your perfect base for a San Juan Island Vacation. Friday Harbor's casual dining choices range from local seafood and rustic pub fare at the Cask & Schooner to open-air dining high above the docks of Friday Harbor at Friday's Crab House. You might opt for vegan fare at Mike's Wine Bar or a burger and a shake at the fun, fifties' style diner Hungry Clam.

Fine Dining on San Juan Island

Treat yourself to dinner at one of San Juan Island’s fine-dining establishments, and you’ll realize the island’s artists include a cadre of superb chefs. (You’re equally welcome in sports jacket or shorts, dressed up or dressed down.)

Dining & Enjoying Friday Harbor

You've arrived and checked in. We'll help you decide what to do next.

It's the Pacific Northwest, so there are some great options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—so great that you could plan your San Juan Island vacation around meals alone. Trust us—the island's high-caliber chefs serve up local fare in a very global way, often using the bountiful fresh seafood that swims around up here. Much of the fare comes directly from this group of islands.

Our San Juan Island Hotel

Nestled in the heart of Friday Harbor, our San Juan Island hotel is just five to ten minutes' walk from the ferry. If you're driving, don't worry about parking—we have plenty close to our guest rooms.
