A visit to San Juan Island in February is such a treat. It’s a little pause from Winter with warmer weather as the first wildflowers and apple blossoms paying a shy visit. Romance is on everybody’s mind, with lovely specials and events at Friday Harbor’s cute waterfront restaurants and wine bars, chocolate shops and local galleries. Meanwhile out on the prairie, on the beaches and the Salish Sea, the otters, seals, foxes and seabirds are busy building nests, burrows or putting on their fanciest plumage. Indulge in a several course meal with wine parings and to-die-for desserts, because love really does go through the stomach and fresh island fare from sea and land is so so good.
Pool & Spa Day
Book yourself a massage or facial at our cute Spa at Earthbox to really relax. Make a day of it and go swimming in our indoor, heated pool, lounge in the huge hot tub and take rejuvenating saunas. Book your treatments early and always check our Specials first for discounts or amazing add-ons.
San Juan Island has a stunning variety in habitat, ranging from rocky shores and saltwater lagoons to farmland and prairies. Over 200 bird species call it their home, including more nesting Bald Eagle pairs than anywhere else in the State. In addition, San Juan sits in the Pacific Flyway migration route ranging all the way from Alaska to South America, making Winter birding a special treat. Visit the southern tip of the isle around the Cattle Point Lighthouse for the best birding experience.
Chocolate Fondue and Bubbles
Did you know the cute coastal town of Friday Harbor flaunts seven wine bars? One of them is the spectacular Sky Bar overlooking the waterfront from one of the highest roof tops. Join them on Valentine’s Day proper for an unforgettable chocolate fondue with champagne.
Laugh your socks off and sing along to old and new songs during the “Of Love and Laughter” show at the Cabaret Corner, because a day without laughter is a day wasted.
Long Walks on the Beach
Have the isle’s beautiful beaches to yourself in February. Tour the lighthouses, walk the prairie, respectfully explore the tide pools and keep a keen eye out for Orcas and Humpbacks returning with their babes towards the end of February.
Join a pottery or figure drawing class at the awe-inspiring Alchemy Art center deep in the woods or make art together as a family at the fun Family Art Days on Saturdays at the renowned Island Museum of Arts.
