5 Ways to Treat your Mom this Mother's Day

Posted on May 10, 2023

Motherhood, the job, comes with precious little vacation time and only one holiday: Mother’s Day. Why do so many brave, kind, selfless, strong women do it? The pay is awesome: pure love. This Mother’s Day show your Mom, the mother of your children, the mother figure in your life how much she means to you. Make it count, make it special, make her feel how much you love her and how grateful you are. Here are some tips on how to treat your Mother, San Juan Island style:

  1. Start a new tradition

Instead of breakfast in bed, flowers and brunch, pack up the whole famdamily and head to beautiful San Juan Island, just 65 miles north of Seattle, where the sun shines 247 days a year (thank you, Olympic Rain Shadow) and the mountains, high above the crystal-clear Salish Sea, are carpeted with wildflowers, just for Mother’s Day. You can make it a surprise trip, if your Mom likes that kind of thing. That way, she won’t stress about packing, driving and the dog sitter. Either way, make sure she doesn’t have to work harder and worry more because of her trip. Help putting the house in order before leaving and do all the planning.

2.  Plan something Mom is passionate about

Is she a hiker, a biker, a birder, a knitter? Has she always dreamt about going on a kayak trip in search of Orca whales? Did she used to watercolor on every beach she visited before she had kids? Does she love to spend hours gallery and museum hopping? Make that happen--on San Juan Island.

3.  Lavish Pampering

Most women, and Moms are no exception, hesitate to put themselves first. Give her the gift of some alone time and the ultimate indulgence: a spa day at The Spa at Earthbox. Have her relax in our in our indoor heated pool and hot tub before treating her to a facial, because a relaxed Mom is a happy Mom.

4.  Wine and Dine her

Needless to say, cooking is not allowed on Mother’s Day. Instead, take her to one of the acclaimed Farm-to-Table restaurants in Friday Harbor for a feast of fresh seafood, local wine and handmade truffles. The Oystertale, COHO Restaurant and Downriggers on the waterfront are all within walking distance of the Earthbox Inn & Spa.
