San Juan Island is renowned for its pristine nature, excellent whale and wildlife watching from sea and land, its rich history and last, but definitely not least, its vibrant art scene. There are nine art galleries, three museums and two bookstores, all within walking distance of our Earthbox Inn & Spa in Friday Harbor. See true island talent at the outdoor Shakespeare under the Stars festival or treat yourself to a play at the community theater.
And then there is the music... All of the awesome, free, live music we have been missing during the pandemic. Here is where to find it:
1) Music in the Park - Saturdays at 2:00pm
Nothing says Summer like hearing music all over town. The Summer Music Concert Series at the waterfront features local musicians from the islands and surrounding areas. Dust off your dancing shoes or enjoy a cocktail at Downriggers next door while listening or both.
2) Farmer’s Market Saturdays 9:30am
The adorable Farmer’s Market in the heart of Friday Harbor offers San Juan Island-grown produce, meats, cheeses, as well as ready-to-eat food like Paella, island made arts and crafts, chair massages and free, live music.
3) San Juan Vineyard Saturdays at 6:00pm
Gorgeous San Juan Vineyard three miles out of town invites local groups to perform at their tasting room each Saturday. All ages and well-behaved pups are welcome.
4) San Juan Brewing Wednesdays at 6:00pm & most weekends
San Juan Brewing’s lovely brew pub with amble outdoor seating and yummy food, is perfect for an uncomplicated lunch or dinner any day of the week (except for Tuesdays). Be delighted by local musicians while you enjoy a Marine Layer Cold IPA or a Clock Dock Doppelbock.
5) Music on the Lawn - Wednesdays at 6:30pm
Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy rock, blues & folk at the lawn of the Historical Museum in Friday Harbor. Treats and beverages are for sale. No alcohol or pets, please.
